So I made it my personal goal to read 6 books this weekend. But I didn't make it. I only read 5. And you know what? I feel pretty damn good about it. Nope, I didn't read 5 full books. But it felt great to get these ones done and mark them off of my books to read before 2009 list! Here they are in order of completion. 1. The Cure 2. Franny and Zooey 3. Coraline 4. Larklight 5. The Time Machine Have you read any of these? My favorite was The Time Machine, though my boyfriend did point out something really interesting about it. He said that the idea of The Time Machine filled him with a sense of dread. He considered the idea of a future that was unrecognizable to be completely grotesque. I thought this was a pretty unique insight and in part an extremely valid one. I tried to think of what would be more upsetting to me, a horrible future with beings recognizable to me or any future with beings unrecognizable to me? The official 1% Well Read Challenge dead line is February but I have been trying to complete this before the end of the year. There have been some drastic changes from my original list . I wanted to read with Chelsea so I picked books I knew I would have a hard time reading on my own. But we have been having a hard time coordinating so I have continued on my own. I will be updating more on my progress soon.

I received Perfect on Paper in order to review it and that always makes me feel kind of weary. But I have to tell you from the first page I have really really enjoyed this book. I am still in the middle of it. Playing reading ADD here, but I am never posting anymore and I am trying to get back into the swing of things. I have more to say about this book but I am saving it for when I finish it. But I do have one question. The main character of this book is named Waverly Bryson. Do you like that as a character name? Why or why not? It just doesn't do it for me. I like the Waverly but the last name is just wrong. And I am wondering why I care so much. In a recent interview author Maria Murnane explained her reasoning for the name. "I wanted to choose an unusual name for the main character, and after sitting in front of my laptop for a few minutes to think, that name just popped into my head. I am so lucky today. Why? you ask. Well, 5 boxes of books greeted me at the front door. And what was in one of those boxes? THIS... Now let me just say, I LOVE THIS COVER. I don't know why, but I do. Maybe the millions of stars. (Did you guys see the two planets up there last night. Thanks to my boyfriend who made me aware of them!) So, I decided just to peak in and take a little look. It is all about magic and the places you can go when you believe in it. The Van Gogh Cafe by Cynthia Rylant. Rylant has always been one of my favorite writers for kids.
