I have had a very lazy day today. I slept until almost noon, mostly just because I felt like it. Do you ever do that? After I finally decided to get up I read in bed for a little while. I was reading The Lady and the Unicorn . I am reading it to participat e in the Dark and Stormy Book Club . In this novel Tracy Chevalier weaves together fact and fiction to tell the fictional story behind some very real tapestries. The club will be "meeting" in just an hours time, so hopefully I can get this post done in time! Little is known about the origins of the Lady and the Unicorn tapestries. They have become iconic in the world of tapestries but it is known that they were made for the Le Viste family which is evident by the coat of arms represented in the tapestry itself. Chevalier did a lot of research in order to weave together the possibilities of fact and fiction. In the Acknowledgments and Notes of the book Chevalier shares some of her process in the creation of the novel. ...

Things are continuing to be busy for me. Today it is my youngest's birthday. Birthday parties are always a stressful time for me. This year we are doing a party in the park and I just finished icing the cake. Rainbow cake with buttercream frosting and rainbow cupcakes with no frosting. Have you noticed? Curious to know why? Yes, suddenly Kindergarten is the bane of my existence. Only 5 short days ago I got a phone call while I was leisurely snoozing away my kid free Saturday morning informing me that my 5 year old was being switched to all day K. Starting at 8:55 Monday morning. Mind you, no one in my house is actually up at 9am. I was relieved when my daughter originally got afternoon K. Well now she is in school for hours on end, has to fend for herself in the lunch room and has double homework. On top of the assigned homework there are also skill checklists and alphabet charts that leave me at 2 hours of homework with my 5 year old. Jealous?

This week is just sliding by for me. Every day I intend to do a post and every day the bed needs me and there is no post done. I have quiet a few things floating around in my head, especially after an unexpected road trip down south and some quality time with NPR. I had a really nice visit and enjoyed my driving time. Interestingly enough I enjoyed it more this time than I did last time even though I listed to audiobooks last time. (I left unexpectedly on a Sunday when the library was closed.) But the audiobooks seemed to make me very aware of how much time was passing. I have this really annoying habit while traveling, it drives my (ex) husband crazy. I put the radio on scan and let it scan and scan until I find a song that I like. I found actually that the experience of the scanning itself is comforting to me, maybe it has something to do with my ADD. I would sting along to a song for the few seconds it was playing and then let it fade away when the channel changed. There isn...
